Eating well: start here!

“Eating” and “well": two simple words that evoke an entire philosophy when combined into one maxim.

“Eating well” holds different meanings for different people, but the "Oldways approach" boils down to two entwined ideas: “healthy eating,”— eating for the goal of achieving and maintaining good health—AND "eating for pleasure"—eating with enjoyment and appreciation firmly in mind. We know that the connection between eating and health is indisputable. The type of foods and drinks—as well as the amount, how we eat them, and how we choose to enjoy them—has a very direct effect on our current and long-term wellbeing, as nutritional research continues to confirm.

Our desire for good health is easy to understand, but the recipe for “eating well” is not always so simple. Try typing the phrase “healthy eating” into any search engine and you’ll reap millions of pages: some with sound advice, many with unfounded opinions, and lots of speculation and near-hysteria about what and how you “should” be eating. There’s an astounding amount of information “out there” about food, nutrition, and health, and it can be downright exhausting to sift through to find clear-cut and solid counsel.

Everyone’s body, health, tastes, culture, preferences, and lifestyles are quite different, and no single approach works for all. Rather, “eating well” can be the satisfying and ever-evolving path to your own eating “fingerprint” by giving you control of your own health, wellbeing, and happiness through enjoying and discovering health-promoting foods and drinks, and new tastes and flavors.

If you care about how and what you eat, you’ve come to the right place!

Sound daunting? Oldways is here to help. We've been and continue to be dedicated to helping you put the pieces of the eating-well puzzle together.
